Galactica ends at four
Galactica is ending. Not so unexpected. Lots of articles mention declining ratings (seeing as downloads and PVR recordings don't count), but the narrative was approacing the end-game, and the showrunner(s) had been public about feeling it was close to the end. It's sad. And I'm so excited. So very goddamn excited.
Sometime during season two I realized that the biggest reason I kept tuning in was, week to week, I didn't know what to expect. And the show doesn't repeat itself. Which sure can piss me off! When they do a fantastic space battle I want to see it again, like, next week and maybe every week after that. Instead they'll go do something else that makes me want to keep watching. And when they do another space battle, they do it totally different. The best tv show I've ever watched is ending, and I am so fucking excited.
I had little interest when I heard they were remaking Galactica. God, they'll just remake anything these days, won't they? Then I watched the pilot. Then I watched it again. Then I invited friends over to watch it with me. Wow, was it a long wait for season one. And the show just kept getting better. Galactica never made appologies for being exciting television, nor the attempt to bring something new and challenging every week. The show doesn't let itself or viewers get too comfortable, and I love that I don't know what to expect when I tune in.
I am also quite relieved that the show is ending on it's own terms Knowing that it is ending just ratchet's everything up yet one more notch.
Well then. Until November...
It's good to see it most likely go out with a bang, than overstay it's welcome, and become Galactica 1980. It's a great show, and I will miss seeing it when it's over, but I'd rather they leave before it shows any hint of becoming stale.
