I actually think that was a gigantic example of metal fatigue...but then, that seems WAY too simple an explanation for this show. Still, the Galactica is HOW old a vessel? And it's been beaten to Hell and back who knows how many times...sooner or later some serious wear HAD to start appearing. I am totally cool with naming the metal fatigue Furburger, however.

I really think that throughout this entire series Baltar has been trying to figure out who he has, what he's supposed to do with his existence (and the knowledge that he's an at least a little responsible for the situation of mankind itself right now) and what the point of HIS existence is. He doesn't really want any responsibility for anything because the last time he had that...well, mushroom clouds going BOOM BOOM BOOM sorta blew the entire planet to Hell.

Zarek...I don't think it was so much "Hey, let's put him in a top hat and cape and mustachio and have him tie a damsel to the railroad tracks! That'll get the hate brewing!" so much as the fact that he's always had a total hunger for power. He knew all along that this was a coup, and he knew all along EXACTLY what that was going to mean. There's no such thing as a bloodless coup...even if there isn't blood running in the streets, it's damn well flowing SOMEWHERE. This was his last roll of the dice...if he gets a 7, the fleet's his. If he gets anything else, he's frakked. If those are your odds, you may as well go all out with that roll.

Gaeta wanted change, but didn't want all that messy violence stuff that inevitably comes along for the ride with upheaval. His background as an Ops officer really showed, too...he was able to make the small tactical decisions he was used to, but was so unfamiliar with big strategic options that they overwhelmed him. I absolutely loved, though, that he refused to apologize right to the end...the avoided the copout path of having him beg for redemption before getting a few bullets through the brain. On a side note, the interesting thing is that if Gaeta was more like Zarek, as the one controlling the military how long do you suppose he even would have felt Zarek was worth keeping alive? The truth is, he REALLY didn't need him the instant Zarek had the Quorum blown away...at that point it's a full on overthrow, anyway.

I also liked seeing Roslin spewing a little fire and brimstone. She seems to have definitely gotten her mojo back, and woe to anyone who screws with the few things she holds close. Even the Cylons seemed to be rather scared shitless...which is not a bad thing to engender in those you have a loose little 'sorta kinda' alliance with.

And the best part? Yet again, we're all left with no clue what in the Hell they're going to do next week.
