Really, you NEED both. If it was all blowin' stuff up all the time...well, it would be cool, but it would have to be named 'The A-Team in Space' or something (note to TV executives...this idea bleeds awesome). And if it was nothing but a character drama...well, it would suck. It mixes the two together very well. Adama and Tigh were utterly kickass. Who knew that when Adama was saying they would have to pick a side, he meant choosing from 'Alive but probably with wet pants' or 'Serene with a hole between your eyes'? This was a kick ass adventure. I've become reasonably patient with the character building episodes, like last week, because I know that BSG won't go long before delivering a kick ass entry like this. It was a monster truck rally wrapped in a blindside sack of a quarterback I don't like wrapped in a slugfest MMA fight and all topped with a delicious layer of shooting stuff and bacon. I hadn't realized how desperately I NEEDED to see an action-oriented Galactica episode unit this one was over and I felt gleefully happy. Sure, it was a REALLY GOOD episode and that contributed to things...but so did the fact that "Holy crap, he totally shot that dude in the head!!!" It's all about 2 groups fighting to be the top dog of what might be a dying breed. They're all so trapped in their own bullshit and anger and everything else that they can't see how utterly, perfectly pointless a battle it is. It really might come down to who figures that out first. Of course, if the 'good guy' Adama side wins, there's probably going to be a massive increase in 'human space debris', so this is probably WAY beyond the realm of negotiation.
